Questions:
- When you are feeling down in the dumps,
what steps do you find helpful to lift your mood? For
the purposes of our discussion, let’s leave out any references to medications,
professional therapy, alcohol and the like.
- How would you define uplifting in connection with moods?
- Has pursuing a hobby been an uplifting addition
to your life? What did you find uplifting about it?
- Can you name a book or poem that you found especially uplifting? Perhaps
you can read the poem to us or a short excerpt from the book.
- How might listening to podcasts be uplifting?
- How about viewing some uplifting YouTubes? How about YouTubes that make
you laugh -- starring animals?
- Nature photography? Can photographing nature
scenes uplift your mood?
- Can participating in a choir help uplift your
moods? Would you welcome the chance to join a choir in your religious congregation?
- Can viewing art be uplifting? Can you identity uplifting examples of music?
- Can you identify any political leaders that you find especially uplifting?
What makes them uplifting?
- Without specifically identifying this person, tell about
someone whose mere presence adds an uplifting beat to social occasions.
- Can having a pet be uplifting?
- Have you ever had a teacher who was uplifting? What made her/him
uplifting?
- Try drawing a sketch that you would consider uplifting.
Perhaps be willing to show it to our discussion group. Is there one sketch in
particular at this link that you find uplifting? Can attempting to create joyful sketches have an
uplifting effect on your mood?
